The End of America?

[This is a Letter to the Editor I wrote that was published in our paper today. As you can see, I think we are in very serious times. Sin always has a payday and I think our payday has come.

A prophetic friend of mine was woken up in the middle of the night recently with Jesus speaking to him. He said that because of the flood of ungodly laws passed by our legislature, and because other states look to our state (Calif.) as a bellwether state, Jesus said He was going to bring judgment upon us, "I will send fires upon you this summer and floods upon you this winter." So the fires are now raging and scientists tell us we have the largest El Nino in history developing out in the ocean. The state is starting to brace for catastrophic floods this winter. God is not fooling around. My friend also said that He had never seen the Lord so serious and somber. ]

Dear Editor,

Back in the 1980s, I was surprised by conservative commentators like George Will predicting the imminent collapse of the Soviet Union. It looked strong enough to me, threatening America and projecting its power around the world. Were they crazy?

            A short time later I was stunned when it did suddenly collapse: the Berlin Wall came down, it lost its satellite states and ceased as a world power. What brought it down was not military defeat, but economic failure. It lost its ability to compete with the U.S. in the arms race.

            Then I read a book, The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers by Paul Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy traced the fall of every world empire (like Spain in the 1500s), to the same thing—they ran out of money just like the Soviets had.

            That alone would be enough to accurately predict the coming fall of the U.S. from the world stage. We are trillions of dollars in debt, which we can never repay. What good are the most sophisticated weapons when we can’t afford to build or use them? Our new bombers will cost one billion dollars each!

            Yet we’re also a nation filled with hubris, thinking we can take on God. We cannot even take on earthly powers like China. How in the world can we take on Almighty God? Yet we defy Him on abortion, pornography, gay marriage, cutting up babies and selling their parts… the list goes on and on. Now we’ve turned against Israel, making a covenant with Iran to defend it against Israel. If Israel tries to bomb Iran’s nuclear sites, we will shoot down their planes! Once again we are defying God, who’s said He will bless those nations that bless Israel, and curse any nation that opposes her.

            There is much more that could be said. But the point is this: the handwriting is on the wall for America just as it was in the 1980s for the Soviet Union. No Republican, not even Donald Trump, can save us. In fact, more than one prophet has said: “there will not be another election—amidst the coming chaos, it will simply be canceled.” Those who are not in Christ and cannot hear His voice will fall. America’s sports loving, beer guzzling, Kardashian watching days will end suddenly. Please get ready!

The Supreme Court and Gay Marriage

I felt I needed to make some points about the recent Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage, so I wrote the following letter to our newspaper editor which was published 7/8/15:

Dear Editor,

Two years ago to the day I wrote another letter-to-the-editor about the Supreme Court and Prop 8 (concerning gay marriage) in which I warned that God Himself would have the final say on the issue. Yet many in our society today are ecstatic, believing the Supreme Court has now given the final word on gay marriage. But nothing has changed. God Himself still presides over the Highest Court that will truly have the final say.

Rebellion against God is not new. It’s been tried many times throughout human history by people who thought they knew better than God and could improve on His laws. The results have always been the same. The Bible quotes one such occasion in Psalm 2: “Why do the heathen rage and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying ‘Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.’”

They didn’t want to live according to God’s laws. They felt His laws were too restrictive, referring to them as “bands” and “cords” which they wanted to break off and cast away so they could live like they wanted.

The Bible goes on to tell of God’s response, “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.” After having a good laugh at their foolishness and presumption, “Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.”

I heard one commentator remark that “the Supreme Court said an ‘in-your-face’ to the Christians” by its ruling. But more importantly, it said an “in-your-face” to God as well, since it’s His law they are casting off.  God does not take such challenges lightly. He always responds, in a time and manner of His choosing.

And marriage? It’s like a rubber band, which you can stretch, twist and turn every which way, yet at some point it always snaps back to its original shape, which, like marriage, was written into its very creation, The court of heaven shall rule, God’s law shall prevail, and God will demonstrate once more that He’s God and we’re not!

Unbeknownst to me, our local homosexual activist had also written a letter to the editor on the subject. He was obviously pleased with the ruling. Our letters were published on the same day. His letter is as follows:

Dear Editor,

Having started the first LGBT group in Yuba-Sutter back in 2003, I am thrilled to see marriage equality now be law of the land across the USA. Until enough Rand Paul types can get government out of marriage, marriage equality for us gays was the right thing to do

I am thankful to all LGBT people and heterosexual allies who have done their part to promote acceptance and also do the political things that had to be done to get to this point. Onward we go until definite equality is achieved regarding adoption and non-discrimination policies. There’s also much to do to create a safer world for transgender people. And LGBTs who are financially secure need to help lift up LGBTs in poverty. Plus we must engage in the online conversations to promote acceptance in regions of the world where religious wannabe supremacists continue to oppress us.

With marriage equality a reality and marriage legalization catching momentum, how about we also move past the failed two-party system?

I put my letter in this post first as a lead in, but the newspaper put his letter first, then mine. Notice that if you read it that way--first his, then mine--my letter negates everything he says. This only stands to reason, because they mischaracterize the issue, putting it in terms of "equality" and "fairness," words they think the average person will agree with. But whether it looks "fair" or "equal" to the average human is beside the point. The real issue is, "How does it look to God? Why does He say about it?"

We are never going to convince God that we are right and He’s wrong. We can either accept what He has to say, whether we understand or even agree with it, or we cam fight against it and try to impose our collective human will contrary to God’s, upon society. Like I said in my letter, such a strategy has been tried often before in human history and always ends the same way:  Prov. 21:30  plainly says,” There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.” Though they may look like they are succeeding for a time, ultimately their efforts are doomed to failure. Does history tell of any human society where homosexuality became the norm for any length of time? I don’t know of any. Shouldn’t that tell us something?

            Also note that to the activist Jeff, this is by no means the end of the story. This is merely a milestone and the beginning of more activism. Next are the transgender people who are becoming the rising cause. A couple of years ago they weren’t even on the radar. Now they’re becoming the new cause celebre. Like a conquering army, one victory advances them to the next target. This is a point most Americans seem to miss. Our idea is, “If we just give them what they say they want, they will go away and leave us alone.” It’s called “appeasement” and it never works. We’re trying it with the Islamists too and it’s not working there either. Like the beer drinking, TV watching husband with the nagging wife. “What will it take to get you off my back?” But there is nothing we can give them that will make them go away, because what they’re really after is the total transformation of society. Jeff admits it:  “Onward we go….” and while we’re at it, “let’s do away with the failed two-party system.” What? Where did that come from?

            So where does “Joe 6-pak” weighs in on the controversy? Consider this comment on our letters that came into the newspaper’s online comment forum yesterday:

Ray M.: On the day the Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage came out, I said, “Fine. Now we can all go back to talking about sports and the weather.” As I listened to talk radio during the day it became clear this would not be the case. One “talking head” said “What next… Polygamy?”… Good grief! I can barely afford the wife I have now. I think this same sex ruling will likely go the way of Roe v. Wade. Every election cycle we will have to endure the constant chatter (ad nauseam) from the media about how candidates feel about the issue. I am not looking forward to it.

The weather today is lovely. Hey! We won the world cup and Buster Posey is starting in the all-star game. …

So there you have it. The gay activists are setting their sights on their next goals—transgender equality and adoption rights—while the average American wishes everybody would shut up and go away so he can watch the all star game in peace. Is it any wonder we have gotten to where we are today?

Letter-to-the-Editor on "Right-to-Die" Legislation

SB 128, the so-called “Right to Die” bill, is sailing through the legislature, revealing once again the schizophrenic nature of our state and nation.

            We’ve been battling 20 years over the lethal-injection method of capital punishment. First the only drug we could use went out of production; so we went to a 3 drug cocktail but had to scrap that because no licensed medical professional could be found to administer it. The court also feared that if it was administered incorrectly, it could cause excruciating pain. My but it has seemed like an impossible task to kill a killer (more death row inmates in Calif. have died from suicide in the last 40 years than by capital punishment [Wikipedia]).

            Contrast that to SB 128: terminally ill people are so easy to kill by comparison that one simple prescription from a pharmacy is all that is needed, and doctors are lining up to issue them. Why it’s so easy the patient can administer it to him/herself. Makes you wonder what all the fuss over the difficulty around capital punishment was all about!

            Also it makes you wonder about our squeamishness over the remote possibility of the killer experiencing pain as he is dying, when every day licensed medical professionals in the U.S. kill over 3000 babies in their mothers’ wombs by tearing them limb from limb, chemically burning them to death with salt, or the even more gruesome partial-birth abortion method.

Listen, the people are speaking: “Let the killing increase” (for everyone except those killers on death row—sorry, we can’t find any way to do that humanely!)

Commentary: The average well-informed citizen in this state thinks he/she has arrived at their opinions on issues of the day by much thought and deliberation of the issues. They would be shocked to know the truth: in spite of the smokescreen of their own deliberations, their opinions are as predictable as the sun rising in the morning. Because they are of the world and the world system, their opinions faithfully reflect the desires of the ruler of that system. Because the world system is a culture of death, they fall into line. That includes abortion and killing the terminally ill,  even glorifying suicide.

But how about capital punishment? Doesn't their opposition to that show that they can be at times anti-death and pro-life depending on the issue? No, because the criteria is not pro-life Vs. pro-death. The real crux is taking stands for or against God and His commandments. People consistently come out against God and His will because that is the position their father, the devil takes. Unknowingly perhaps, still they faithfully represent their father, though they would fiercely resist the notion that they are of the devil! But all of the hot-button societal issues of the day boil down to taking stands directly in opposition to the will of God--adultery, homosexuality, transgenderism, abortion, euthanasia, militant feminism--they all oppose God's order and reflect the desire of the god of this world to overthrow and overturn everything God-ordained.

"But Brother Hobbs, Brother Hobbs, how about capital punishment, isn't that ungodly because it's killing another human being and is administered unfairly?"

It is administered unfairly and in its present form is a disgrace. But still capital punishment is commanded by God. It is commanded to society, while it is forbidden for an individual. We cannot avenge ourselves, but society must avenge its citizens, according to the covenant God made with mankind after Noah's flood: "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man" [Gen. 9:6].

Notice it is not so much to avenge next-of-kin humans for the murder done, but to avenge God against the person or even animal who destroyed a human made in God's image. God gave that responsibility to society to handle as God's agent, and all our mealy-mouthed excuses that we can't find a good way to do it blah blah blah, don't cut it with Him. It can be done, but society must find the will to do it!

"But then doesn't abortion fit in the same category: destroying a person made in God's image?" Exactly right, and think of the tremendous judgment hanging over this nation for the killing of up to 100 million babies! Also killing the terminally ill, the disabled, the child born with defects... it's all the same--destroying a person made in God's image. That's what Satan has always wanted to do. Because he can't get at God, he busies himself destroying humans made in God's image, working through his (mostly clueless) agents in society. And that shows us whose kingdom we are in and who is our father--by which side we are on. 

The average citizen of the world would be greatly offended if you told them they were of their father the devil! (And I was not bold enough to say that in my letter-to-the-editor.) But that's exactly what Jesus said to the citizens of His day (John 8:44). He also said that those who were not for Him were against Him. We each must make that same choice. It's the same now as it was then: there are only two kingdoms. There is no middle ground.
